Marie Schleef

Marie Schleef, born in Göttingen in 1990, grew up in Graz. She studied Theater and Performance at Bard College in New York before training in theatre directing at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin. She subsequently worked as an assistant director at the Volksbühne, among others with Susanne Kennedy. In her work, Schleef explores the unknown and the forgotten. She is particularly interested in bringing texts by women writers to the stage whose work has so far received little attention inGerman-language theatre. Her productions have been presented at venues including the Volksbühne and Ballhaus Ost in Berlin, Schauspiel Köln, Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, the Münchner Kammerspiele, Burgtheater Vienna, and Schauspielhaus Zürich. Her work has been invited to the Körber Studio for Young Directors, Radikal jung, and the Berliner Theatertreffen. Schleef has received the CHANEL Next Prize and the Kurt Hübner Directing Award, and was nominated for the Nestroy Theatre Prize.
